-I wanna know about my family's history. I live in America and I wanna trace my ancestry back to Europe and stuff. All I could find was records from America from like 1900. Does anyone know of a site that lets me see my ancestor information from like Ireland and such? Do I have to access records from Europe or something?Genealogical research doesn't work that way. You need to trace one generation at a time and document the information you find. If you have traced your actual family to their arrival in the US in 1900 then there are several European sites. I would suggest that you try Familysearch.org or use the computers at a public library. I would also suggest that you may have stopped your search in the US to soon thousands of Irish came to the US to escape the potato famine between 1845 and 1852.
Genealogy isn't like McDonalds...if you REALLY REALLY want it, it is a long time process. Understand.. "recent" records (less than 100 yrs old) are often restricted by privacy laws. You can get your birth certificate...I can't. You have to do the preliminary work outside of the internet.
The odds are your ancestors did NOT have a coat of arms/ family crest, but there are scam sites online. I have no "famous" people in my work.. not interested, the thrill of the solving of a puzzle (who REALLY was her father) means more to me.
Yes, there are many sources for research (and many of them are free). If you don't understand HOW to use them, your ancestor could be smack dab in the middle of a webpage..but you won't realize it is or isn't YOURS.
There is a tutorial at www.rootsweb.com which is free, there are others out there. We have many good researchers here to give you advice as you go along. If you are willing to put in the time and energy, you can do it!!
