How would I go about locating someone?

-I want to look up an old penpal of my mothers. He's Lithuanian and they last wrote just before the collapse of the soviet union. I know the name of his wife and two children also but I've had no look finding them on social networking sites. Just curious to know how they are and what they do now. Any ideas?
