-where does my last name come fromMoctezuma is a N谩huatl language name. If you have that surname then you most certainly have Mexican Nahua ancestry unless there was an adoption involved or someone with a non-Nahua surname changed his surname to Moctezuma. In Mexico there are people with surnames like Moctezuma and other Mexican Indian surnames.
This was the name of two emperors of the Mexica Empire. The Mexicas were the people that American textbooks erroneously call "the Aztecs." In the time of the Mexica the name was most likely pronounced Motecuhzoma.
Just because you have the surname Moctezuma doesn't mean you are related to the Aztec emperors, but it doesn't mean you aren't either.
I have actually met someone in Mexico with your surname.
No, you last name was adopted by Native Americans as a tribute to Moctezuma, but having that name doesn't mean that Native American tribes or the Government would accept that you are Native American. You would still have to provide the same documentation as someone with the surname Smith. by the way there are several spellings including Montezuma, Moteuczoma, Motecuhzoma
No that does not automatically make you Native American. It may mean you have a possibility of having some Native American ancestry though. For some reason or another Native American ancestry is almost a very touchy subject here. I have no idea why, if I have a German ancestor from the 1700's I still have German ancestors, but if you have Native American ancestors in the the early 1900's but you are predominately of European descent, then many would argue you have none Native American whatsoever. If you want to know how much Native American you have in you, then take a DNA test, it will tell you. I have heard of some having as much as 1/10 Native in them, and being of Mexican descent.
well I think that surname is actually mexican but I tell you one thing:
having a last name from england makes you at least half english
having a last name from japan makes you at least half japanese, and so on...
unless you're adopted and you don't know your real last name, then yeah, having a last name from a certain country makes you a descender from that country.
Yes, it does. And, if you change it to "Gates", you automatically become rich and smart.
I am kidding.
