Am I Black, biracial, or multiracial?

-People ask me this question all of the time and I really don't know how to answer. My mother is African-American (because of my grandfather) and Caucasian (obviously my grandmother's side). Her Caucasian side of the family is British, German, and Irish. My father is purely African-American. I really don't know any percents or fractions considering we only have a small pedigree chart of my grandma's family and my father doesn't have any information on his biological father since he was adopted by his step-father as an infant. Sorry, if this confuses anyone... I can elaborate if it does. There is no confusion. As an Anthropologists and Genealogical researcher I would have to say yes, yes and yes to all three. You are of African and Caucasian background there for you would be considered Black in some cultures; you would be considered biracial (bi meaning 2) in some cultures and multiracial in others, that do not understand ethnicity and race are two different things. The "amounts" will not change that you are biracial and there is no reason to elaborate on the information you have provided.

If you want an answer to the people who are rude enough to ask there are two things you could say"

1. Why do you want to know, would it make a difference in out friendship

2. Biracial, why do you want to know.

I personally find it very offensive for people to ask that question.
I think the people who continually ask you are rude and I have to say racist, personally I would tell them to mind their business...you have no obligation to tell them anything at all...You say you are African American and that is what you continue to say or whatever you feel comfortable with saying.............
Who cares? Be you.

I'm English, German, and Scotch-Irish with a dash of Welsh. I don't spend my days trying to decide if I'm German-American or English-American. I'm me.
Tell an employer all that crap on yer C.V, & i guaruntee you get a job and promotion before white people.
A black person with multiracial heritage.
If youre black and youre family has been here for generations youre very likely to be multi
You are multi-racial.
Your Multi ;)
In the ARBITRARY way of determining the black/white divided in the US, you are definitely Black. But, does it really matter? You are a PERSON, and you can make it much better than any one from any race! But what is being black; rather what is being white? Human kind originated from Africa, therefore at first everybody was black. Why? simply because the skin had to produce melanine to protect people from sun radiations and skin cancer, simply! The other thing to be taken into consideration is the need for sunlight to metabolize the most needed vitamin D from growth and building bones! There is therefore need for equilibrating the need for sunlight and the amount of melanine needed for protection! Then since people are restless and started migrating north they had to produce less and less melanine because of the difference climates, more clouds, then less sunlight, then less vitamine D as they moved to the temperate and nordic latitudes. People started to become more and more white to be able to optimally continue metabolizing vitamin D. As a matter of fact, I read an article saying that people started becoming white in the Mont Atlas, in Morocco; in Africa! Sorry to say that but it is the white's skin that is a result of progressive degeneration to adapt to new environments less subjected to heavy sunlight. AND, the fact is, black skin is much stronger than white skin, ages less, and far less exposed to skin cancer! Just be proud of who you are and read alot about scientific facts about race, forget these bulsh....s! Regards
