Have you trace your genealogy?

At that point Sherman burned all the records so there is no way to trace past that.Yes, I've been doing it for the last 3 or so years and have traced back to the 1300s, and even one line back to Charlemagne, but I'm more interested in the stories of the normal people (which can be much more interesting).



I've also been working on a book about the history of my family (not published or anything, just one for my own collection to have a reference to), which I find much better than just a family tree.
I have, and several other members of my extended family have. Various of us have had the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world and search records other than online. We have a family historian who has put our ancestors into an historical context. It has been an ongoing project over the span of many years and we all share each bit of information we uncover.
Im doing it now and having a blast! Its fun to see what kind of life my ancestors couldve had. Its hard to stay on track as the family tree branches off in all kind of directions. I have to pick a branch and stay focused. Then my old aunt chimes in and tells me some wild stories which only fuel the fire in my search. Love it.
I have been doing for 17 years. I love it. Its time consuming and sometimes I'm like why I am doing this. I just take a little break and then I'm off and running again. If you have children get them involved they will love it also. at least my 13 year old does..
